Visiting Oregon Wineries?
Intro and Quick Facts
Oregon wineries are scattered over a magical state whose borders encompass 362 miles of rugged coastline, deep river canyons, white-peaked mountains, and endless amounts of vegetation right alongside high-desert prairies and volcanic rock formations.
Mostly, Oregon is a place that makes exquisite wine without any pretence. A place where visitors are always welcome and where the winemaker is never far away?
When California wine industry was picking up, winemaker Richard Sommer took a risk and planted first Riesling grapes in Oregon in 1961. In just 40 years Oregon has evolved into a world-class wine growing state with 15 approved winegrowing regions producing wine from 72 grape varieties.
With over 400 wineries, the state ranks second in wine production - the other top wine states are California, New York, Washington and Texas respectively.
Some of the most notable wine areas of the Oregon state include Columbia Valley, Rouge Valley, Umpqua Valley, Walla Walla, Willamette Valley and Applegate Valley.
