Kansas Wineries

Kansas Wine History and Quick Facts

Kansas wineries have grown considerably since 1980's, when after the prohibition was over, they were finally allowed to cultivate grapes for wine making and not just juice. The state houses over two dozen of wineries, large and small, and keeps growing in its annual production of over 50,000 gallons.

Using locally grown grapes, berries, and other fruits, Kansas wineries produce a wide variety of delicious favorites, including some you won't find anywhere else. Kansas vintners have received over 300 international awards for their wines in recent years, often coming close to their Californian equivalents.

Wine makers in Kansas don't have an easy job - they have to constantly fight with rough and ever changing weather conditions and storms. Kansas wineries' production is focused on French-American hybrids, such as Marechal Foch, and native vines which are able to withstand the climatic challenges.
