About Winery Explorer
About the Website
Having researched hundreds of winery destinations, I decided to share everything I learnt on this site. I started with the US, since most of us like to drive down for a wine tasting weekend instead of taking a week off, reserving a flight and all the hassle of a big trip. Visit
US wineries page
for the listing of best online resources for planning your American wineries exploration.
My BLOG will let you know about the updates to the site, so that you can take full advantage of the fresh information.
Canadian and European wineries are coming soon, after which I will add Australian pages as well. That’s the most expensive flight for us North Americans, so, we’ll leave it till last.
About the Explorer
Nice to meet you. My name is Julia. I’d like to share with you my ‘wine story’. I would also love to hear yours. Scroll down to send me a note about yourself.
My wine personality developed slowly and stubbornly. I still remember the days when the strong scent of an oaked Chardonnay made me sick, or the strength of Cab Sav made me want to order another glass. My favorite wine was White Zinfandel, berry and fruit wines, and late harvest whites. Then I met a friend who preferred more potent varieties, and with resistance, bit by bit, I started giving them a try. Who would have known, that my taste would change 180 degrees in less than a year. Don’t get me wrong, I still appreciate a light fruity white on a hot summer afternoon, but boy, do I find exquisite delight in full-bodied wines…
Anyhow, my never ending quest for better and more flavorful wines made me want to learn more about where they come from, how to select them in a store, and most importantly, how to taste them at wineries. That’s where it all started. Once you begin relating wine flavor to the region of its origin, grape type and vintage, you can narrow down to the region whose wines tastes best to you. Then, take a trip there, and enjoy. For some ideas on trip planning, check out the Wine Trip Tips Page .
My personal favorites so far are Italian Sangiovese, Ontario Chardonnays, Australian Syrahs (Shiraz), French reds from the Rhone and Bordoux regions. If this sounds too confusing, subscribe to the e-course here to understand more about wine, wine regions and some general food pairing tips.

My goal is to evolve this site into a portal of comprehensive information about everything you need to know before you plan your trip to a wine region of your choice. I’d like to hear from you with your thoughts, ideas, questions, stories, pictures, etc. Together, we can make this a great place where wine lovers exchange experiences, learn about wine destinations and provide reviews of places they already visited.
